Nestled at 2501 South Wall Avenue, the historic Ogden Union Station offers a fascinating glimpse into the city’s railroad past. No longer an active passenger terminal since 1997, the building now functions as a vibrant community center and museum complex. The current structure, reconstructed in 1924 after a devastating fire, houses several distinct attractions that draw history enthusiasts and casual visitors alike.
Guests can explore the Utah State Railroad Museum, which features the Eccles Rail Center. This section displays two of the largest locomotives ever manufactured, providing a tangible connection to the era when Ogden served as a critical junction for the Union Pacific, Southern Pacific, and Denver & Rio Grande Western railroads. The site also includes the John M. Browning Firearms Museum and the Browning-Kimball Car Museum, alongside two art galleries. Together, these spaces preserve a collection of approximately 50,000 items, ranging from photographs and costumes to railroad ephemera.
The facility operates on a consistent schedule, welcoming visitors from Wednesday through Saturday between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm. On-site parking is available for those driving to the location. The grounds invite exploration of Ogden’s cultural heritage. The station’s origins trace back to 1869, and its preservation ensures that the stories of residents and the impact of the transcontinental railroad remain accessible to the public.
