About Salt Lake City & the Wasatch Front
The Wasatch Front is Utah's urban spine, a line of cities from Ogden through Salt Lake City to Provo at the foot of the Wasatch Range, with four ski resorts less than an hour from the airport.
Salt Lake City is Utah's capital and the main gateway to the state, with its international airport a short drive from downtown. Temple Square, the headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, sits at the centre of a city laid out on a wide grid, and the Natural History Museum of Utah on the eastern bench has a large collection of dinosaur fossils found in the state. The city's ski reputation rests on Little and Big Cottonwood Canyons, which climb straight out of the suburbs. Alta and Snowbird share Little Cottonwood, while Brighton and Solitude sit in Big Cottonwood, and in summer the same canyons are used for hiking and wildflower walks. West of the city, the Great Salt Lake is the largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere. Antelope Island State Park, reached by causeway, has a free-roaming bison herd and wide views across the lake. Further west, the Bonneville Salt Flats near Wendover are a vast white plain known for land-speed racing. North of Salt Lake, Ogden has a restored Historic 25th Street and access to Snowbasin, which hosted the downhill races of the 2002 Winter Olympics, and Powder Mountain. To the south, Provo is home to Brigham Young University and sits below Mount Timpanogos, with Timpanogos Cave National Monument, Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon and Sundance Mountain Resort nearby.Where to go in Salt Lake City & the Wasatch Front
